Welcome to the second Ark Nova tournament at EuroQuest!

Description

In Ark Nova, you will plan and design a modern, scientifically managed zoo. With the ultimate goal of owning the most successful zoological establishment, you will build enclosures, accommodate animals, and support conservation projects all over the world. Specialists and unique buildings will help you in achieving this goal.

Each player has a set of five action cards to manage their gameplay, and the power of an action is determined by the slot the card currently occupied.

Plaque(s)

The top two finishers from the Final will receive a plaque.

Event Description

All heats and the elimination rounds will use the base game only. We will not be using the Marine Worlds expansion, however if the brown end-game scoring cards are available and the table is unanimous, review and use those.

4 players per table, if possible, but no less than 3 players.

Getting Started
  1. Randomly determine a start player.
  2. Set up the Base Conservation Project cards and association track Bonus tiles.
  3. In the heats, we will select zoo maps in reverse turn order. See next section for specific maps to use.
  4. Each player puts their Animals card in slot 1 and randomly determines the slots for the others.
  5. Deal 8 Zoo cards and 2 Final Scoring cards to each player.
  6. All players discard 4 Zoo cards. Discard pile is face down and is not public information.
  7. Deal 6 Zoo cards face up to the display.
  8. You are ready to begin.

Note: We will be using the standard interactive rules like Venom and Constriction.

MAPS

Heat 1: Maps 1, 2, 5, 7, 8
Heat 2: Maps 1, 2, 4, 6, 9 (sub in 5 if 9 is unavailable)
Semifinal/Final: All players at each table play with the same randomly selected map; bid for turn order

During the Game

State your action out loud (i.e. “Build strength 4”), and offset the action card until complete.

Mistakes that don’t affect others should be corrected before the player’s next turn. If you play a card that benefits from other player’s actions (like Herpetologist) it is your responsibility to notice, while all players should work together to ensure proper benefits are received.

Rule Modifications

For players using the Silver Lake map who play the Archaeologist card—the placement spots providing 2 money do not count as placement bonuses for the purpose of the Archaeologist effect.

Tie Breakers
In case of a tie, the tied player who supported the most Conservation Projects
wins the game
Additional Tie Breakers:

If still tied in a heat, both players will get credit for a win.
In advancement rounds, the player later in turn order wins.

At Game End

Please fill out the scoresheet completely. Then turn it in to the GM. We will use the official rule change that adds 100 to each player’s score but you can fill out the scoresheet either way. If the heat winner does not intend to play in the advancement rounds, please let the GM know.

Elimination rounds

After two heats, if there are eight or fewer game winners, we will cut to the top eight and advance the top two from both semifinal tables to the final.

If there are 9 to 16 winners, we will cut to 12 or 16 (to include all winners). If we have more than 16 winners, we will take the top 16 based on margin of victory.
